A Holiday Tree Lighting,
sponsored by the Borough President’s Office and Community Board 7, is
scheduled for Dec. 11 at 6 p.m., to
be held at the center mall at Mosholu Parkway and Bainbridge Avenue.
Social Security Help:
On Dec. 18, representatives of the
Social Security Administration will help people with any
questions/issues about Social Security at Congressman Eliot Engel’s
Bronx office, 3655 Johnson Ave. Due to the
holidays, reps will only be there for half the day. Appointments

Toy and Gift Drive:
JE & ZB Butler Child Advocacy Center is having a toy and gift drive
for infants to teenagers. Donations of new toys and gifts for the
children can be brought to the Center at 3314 Steuben Ave. For more

Fordham Road Discount:
The Fordham Road “Advantage” Program,
sponsored by the Fordham Road BID, is scheduled to run until July 2009, and offers
specified discounts to students, faculty, and staff members of
participating area colleges, institutions, medical facilities and
healthcare training centers who display their photo identification cards
at the time of a purchase. Participants include:
1199 SEIU Healthcare Training Center, 1199 SEIU Child Care Corp., ABC
Training Center, Bronx Community College, Choice Care Professional
Registry, Inc., CUNY on the Concourse, Family Support Systems Unlimited,
Inc., Fordham University, Lehman College, Monroe College and Montefiore
Medical Group on the Concourse. The
discounts and offers range from a free gift to up to 50% off purchases.
Place for Teens With
Problems: The Power Project is a free
program for teens ages 12 to 18 who are
dealing with substance abuse and other problems. Located at 3464
Webster Ave., Power Project provides case management, individual and
group counseling, trips, and is just a place to get away from it all.

Foster Parents Urgently Needed, The Foster Care Network
urgently needs adults who want to become foster parents for the hundreds
of area children who need a home. For more information, call (800)

Foreign Exchange Students Need Hosts:
The Pacific Intercultural Exchange is seeking host families
for foreign high school students who are arriving soon. Prospective
host families can review student applications and select the perfect
match. Interested parties should contact the program immediately. Call
toll-free, (866) 546-1402. AFS, the leading international high school
student exchange program, also needs local families to host high school
students for an academic year or six months. Students arrive in August.
AFS is also looking for volunteer liaisons to work locally with families
and their hosted students. Anyone interested in hosting or volunteering

National Student Partnerships
provides no-cost help with job searches, housing
searches, education, job training, resume-writing, childcare, legal

Food Drive:
The Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture is
seeking canned food donations to benefit
the Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Marble Hill Food and Hunger Project, Inc.
The food drive is ongoing. Please leave
food donations at the Society, 4450 Fieldston Road, Monday
through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12
p.m. No perishable foods accepted. For more

Federal Trade Commission (FTC) materials
on credit acquisition and protection available to the public or for
